The book piles surround me. Literally, three piles threaten to topple me at any given moment. The titles belong to various genres, including historical fiction, mystery, literary fiction, a memoir, a short story collection, and literary non-fiction.
I am engulfed in a book minefield.
My husband often retorts that I am in possession of too many books. Books abound in my humble home but, like a lion on the prowl, I am always on the scent for more. Searching for the perfect nap time companion has become my passion, almost an obsession.
Almost—I’m not that self-absorbed.
You see, I am a book person. One that not only relishes a good story, but also unearths satisfaction in discovering bookish treasure.
I know, I know, I am a book nerd. I get it. Book people can only be understood and known, without judgment, by other book people. Am I right? For instance, when I discovered that a new friend enjoys many of the same books as me, uses Goodreads faithfully, and listens to the same bookish podcast that I do, I was smitten. We are now fast and fierce friends. (Loyalty is also a common trait in book people.)
Some people bike, some scrapbook, some consider themselves photographers. Me? I’m a reader.
I read books; I read books about books. I listen to books; I listen to podcasts about books. I write a blog about books; I take pictures of books. My favorite gifts to give and receive are books.
Whilst traveling, my souvenir of choice is a book, preferably used. On a recent trip to New York City, my husband indulged his beloved book nerd by visiting several of the city’s notable book shops. It was glorious. Next time, I have my sights set on spending a few nights in the Library Hotel. Now that’s a perfect place to lay your head.
So, who are you? What do you love? Books help me discover myself, my emotions, and understand those around me. What gives you life and fills your heart with joy? We all have something, but if you don’t, now is the time to find it, whatever “it” may be.
My name is Lori and I am a book addict. Welcome to The Novel Endeavor, the home of my bookish adventures.
